This picture depicts the roaring 20’s the time period that The Great Gatsby takes place in. During the roaring 20’s the rich lived a lifestyle that many can only dream of living and they were having more fun than ever. Jazz bars were in and war veterans from WW1 were home. Life was good until the great depression of course.
This picture is of men protesting prohibition. Because of prohibition Gatsby was able to make all of the money that he had by illegally bootlegging alcohol over the counter of his pharmacy stores that he and Dan Cody invested in.
The Great Gatsby’s setting is on Long Island in two places for the most part, West Egg and East Egg. West Egg is new money, people that have acquired their money through working and weren’t born into where as East Egg is old money. The people in East Egg for the most part are from old money meaning that their family has had money for generations passing it down from generation to generation.
